In this piece, Sibande presents Sophie, her recurring alter ego, in an elaborate blue Victorian-style, domestic-worker’s uniform, complete with apron and doek (headscarf). The life-size print reflects the dreams and constraints of generations of domestic workers, while tracing the enduring burden of race, gender, identity and enforced service.
