Sophie – Ntombikayise extends Sibande’s imagined universe through Sophie, her recurring alter ego. Dressed in a transformed domestic uniform, Sophie carries histories of service, inheritance and self-making. The work honours Ntombikayise, ‘mother of girls’, while recasting domestic labour as a site of imagination, dignity and generational power.
